Poll Worker Applications:
The Santa Cruz County Elections Department is constantly seeking people dedicated to the democratic process who are able to serve in a polling place on election day.
Each election 800 or more people are selected to staff polling places where they are responsible for issuing ballots, assisting voters, and closing the polls after voting concludes at 8 p.m.
Election officers can earn $75 for serving as a clerk and $100 for serving as an inspector. The inspector is responsible for managing the polling place and picking up the ballots prior to election day as well as returning voted ballots to the receiving center on election night.
The student poll worker qualifications:
- be at least 16 years old
- United States citizen or a legal permanent resident
- in good standing attending a public or private secondary educational institution
- a grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
The Student Poll Worker Application requires a signature of a teacher and a parent.
