Poll Worker Job Descriptions

Polls are open from 7am to 8pm on Election Day.

Inspector - This position pays $150.00 for the day (6:00am until about 11:00pm)

Inspectors are required to:

  • Attend a two hour inspector training, ($20 stipend), a three hour electronic voting specialist training ($30 stipend), and a one hour inspector workshop, ($10 stipend), prior to Election Day
  • Go to the facility before Election Day and set up a plan for how you will get into the facility on election morning.
  • Be person in charge of your assigned polling site on Election Day.
  • Pick up polling place supplies the Monday before Election Day and keep them secure, in their possession.
  • Set up the polling place in time to be ready to open the polls at 7 a.m. on Election Day.
  • Return all election materials to your assigned receiving center on Election Night.
  • Have reliable, private transportation.

Electronic Voting Specialist (EVS) - This position pays $110.00 for the day (6:00am until about 11:00pm) 

Electronic Voting Specialists (EVS) are responsible for the care and use of the electronic voting machines throughout the day and are required to:

  • Attend a two hour clerk/inspector training, ($20 stipend) and a three hour electronic voting specialist training, ($30 stipend).
  • Set up the electronic voting equipment on election morning to be ready for the first voter at 7am
  • Assist voters in using the machine throughout the day.
  • Close out and pack up the equipment after the polls close.

Clerk - This position pays $110.00 for the day (6:00am until about 11:00pm)

Clerks are required to:

  • Attend a two hour clerk training, ($20 stipend).
  • Work 6am to approximately 2 hours after the polls close on Election Day.

(Can be split into two shifts, choose Clerk AM or Clerk PM for ½ day shift.)

  • Check in and assist voters.
  • Help set up before the polls open.
  • Help close and pack up after the polls close.

Clerk AM - This position pays $55.00 for the day (6:00am until about 3:00pm)

AM Clerks are required to:

  • Attend a two hour clerk training, ($20 stipend).
  • Work 6am to approximately 3:00pm
  • Check in and assist voters.
  • Help set up before the polls open.

Clerk PM - This position pays $55.00 for the day (2:45pm until about 10:00pm, possibly later)

PM Clerks are required to:

  • Attend a two hour clerk training, ($20 stipend).
  • Work 2:45pm to approximately 2 hours after the polls close on Election Day,
  • Check in and assist voters.
  • Help close and pack up after the polls close.
