Board of Supervisors Call Special Election for July 26, 2005

Resolution was adopted authorizing an all mail ballot special election to be held on July 26, 2005 for the registered voters residing within CFD No. 1 (Felton) to vote on a measure to authorize debt and issue bonds to acquire water system improvements and levy a special tax based on water meter size.

Deadline to register to vote in the July 26 Election

Closing date for registration in this election.

The county elections official shall accept an affidavit of registration executed as part of a voter registration card in the forthcoming election if the affidavit is executed on or before the 15th day prior to the election, and if any of the following apply:

1) The affidavit is postmarked on or before the 15th day prior to the election and received by mail by the county elections official.

2) The affidavit is submitted to the Department of Motor Vehicles or accepted by any other public agency designated as a voter registration agency pursuant to the National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (42 U.S.C. Sec. 1973gg) prior to the election.

3) The affidavit is delivered to the county elections official by means other than those described in paragraphs (2) and (3) on o before the 15th day prior to the election.

Statement of Vote on Board of Supervisors Agenda

The code allows 28 days to file the Statement of Vote, but due to the size of this election, this is the target date for the County Clerk to prepare a certified statement of results of the election and submit it to the Board of Supervisors for the board to declare the results of the election.

5 days after canvass

Recount May be Requested

Within five (5) days after the completion of the official canvass, any voter may request a recount by filing a written request with the Elections Official and specifying which measure is to be recounted.

The request may specify the order of the precincts for the recount, and the petitioning voter shall, before commencement of each day’s recount, deposit such sum as the official requires to cover the costs (approximately $500 per day).

"Completion of the canvass" shall be presumed to be the time when the elections official signs the certified statement of vote.

Rosters of voters and indexes will be preserved for five years following the date of the election (until July 26, 2010)

Ballots, absentee ballot identification envelopes, spoiled ballots, canceled ballots, unused ballots and ballot receipts will be preserved for six months following the date of the election (January 26, 2006).
