June 3, 2003 Special Election

Election Numbers Update

Canvass procedures began Wednesday, June 4.
Results from the June 3, 2003 Special Election are SEMI-OFFICIAL.

There are over a thousand outstanding absentee and provisional ballots that remain to be counted.

The numbers of ballots left to be counted break down as follows:

Measure A – 301 absentees

Measure B – 642 absentees

Measure C – 89 absentees

TOTAL = 1,032

These numbers DO NOT include the following:

  1. Provisional ballots – over 200 combined from all three jurisdictions.

  2. Ballots that need to be remade – could be 0 to 4 cards per precinct.

  3. Research of over and under votes (ballots where two or more voting squares were marked, or where no vote was recorded by the computer)

  4. Ballots identified after auditing the polling places.

Canvass procedures include: processing absentees, auditing the polling places, tagging voter records indicating who has voted, researching provisionals, conducting a 1% manual tally, remaking damaged or rejected ballots, preparing the ballots for the count and then final certification.

The law allows 28 days to complete the canvass and do our final certification of the vote. However, we expect to be able to complete our work toward the end of the week of June 9.

Our processes are open to the public and we have "Observer Guidelines" available.
