Candidate Information Night

 

Candidate filing season has arrived and the Elections Department has arranged the following night to answer any questions potential candidates may have:

Thursday, February 4, 2010
Board Chambers, Fifth Floor
701 Ocean St., Santa Cruz
6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Frequently asked questions by prospective candidates are:

  • how and when to file papers;

  • what qualifications are required;

  • how to prepare a Candidate Statement of Qualifications;

  • what election data is available;

  • how to raise money for campaigns;

  • how to prepare for a "vote by mail" drive.

All of these questions and any others will be answered at these candidate information nights. We will have Candidate’s Handbooks available for all interested parties as well. More information concerning the June election is available on our website at www.votescount.com.

Staff will review the steps a person must follow in order to place his or her name on the primary ballot. In addition, elections officials will answer questions regarding voter registration, voting by mail, campaign filing, and other campaign practices and laws.

Offices up for election on June 8, 2010 include the following federal and state offices:

  • U.S. Senate, the 14th and 17th Congressional Districts
  • Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Attorney General, State Controller, Secretary of State, State Treasurer, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Insurance Commissioner, State Board of Equalization District 1
  • 27th and 28th State Assembly Districts
County offices on the ballot include:
  • 3 Superior Court judgeships, Assessor-Recorder, Auditor-Controller, County Clerk, District Attorney-Public Administrator, Superintendent of Schools, Sheriff-Coroner, Treasurer-Tax Collector, and County Supervisors for the 3rd and 4th districts
  • Each county central committee will elect its representatives in June 2010.
