Statement of JANET K. BEAUTZ, Candidate for

County Supervisor, 1^st District

County of Santa Cruz

Education and Qualifications: As your Supervisor, I am proud of the improvements we have made in the First District. From rural preservation and environmental protection to public improvements such as the Simpkins Family Swim Center, O’Neill Ranch and the Live Oak Children’s Library, I have worked hard to make the First District a better place to live.

I continue to strive to be responsive to First District residents. I have:

• Made preservation of neighborhoods a top priority.
• Improved roads, sidewalks and drainage and added new parks.
• Supported seniors’ issues including mobile home rent control.
• Supported increases in law enforcement and public safety, including neighborhood Sheriff’s Service Centers.
• Reduced housing densities to stop overcrowding.
• Worked to revitalize our local business areas.
• Strongly supported a safe and reliable water supply through effective advocacy on local and regional issues.
• Strongly supported and funded future traffic safety upgrades and congestion relief, including slated Highway One improvements and expansion of mass transit alternatives.

I have brought a voice of moderation and reason to the Board of Supervisors. I hold weekly evening meetings with constituents and have a proven record of trust and accomplishment.
