Voters who have not had a chance to register to vote for the November 2, 2004 Presidential General Election have until Monday, October 18 to complete a voter registration card and return it to the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections Department. To be added to the voter rolls for November 2, voter registration cards must be postmarked no later than October 18. Or, better yet, voters are encouraged to hand deliver voter registration cards to the County Clerk/Elections Department at 701 Ocean St., Room 210 or drop it in the white mail box labeled “Absentee Ballots” in front of the county building. Registration cards may also be dropped off at the City Clerk’s office in Santa Cruz, Scotts Valley, Capitola or Watsonville.

Voter registration cards are available at those locations as well as at other county offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles, social service agencies, military recruitment offices, local libraries, post offices, and several local businesses during regular office hours. At this date, it is too late to utilize the online voter registration program provided by the Secretary of State’s Office.

To be eligible to register and vote, a person must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on or before November 2, and not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction.

Voters should re-register if they do not remember voting within the last five years, have moved since last voting, want to change their political party affiliation, or have changed their name.
