ARGUMENTS DUE AUGUST 18 FOR LOCAL MEASURES
San Lorenzo Valley Unified School District and Scotts Valley Fire Protection District will each have a measure on the November 7, 2000. The deadline for filing arguments for or against the measures is 5 p.m. August 18, 2000.
The measures are:
Persons interested in filing arguments for or against these measures may contact the Santa Cruz County Elections Department to obtain additional information on the measures along with a guide to writing arguments. The "Guide to Writing Arguments" is also available on the Elections Department's website at www.votescount.com
Arguments may not exceed 300 words. They must be filed by 5 p.m. on August 18 at the Santa Cruz County Elections Department, 701 Ocean Street, Room 210, Santa Cruz, CA 95060, 831-454-2060. Arguments may also be filed by FAX if the signatures appear on the same page of the argument and original signatures are presented to the Santa Cruz County Elections Department within 48 hours of transmission. The department's FAX number is 831-454-2445.
Arguments must be accompanied by a signed "Signature Statement" form available at the Santa Cruz County Elections Department or on the department's website at www.votescount.com
Only one argument for and one argument against each measure will be printed in the Voter's Information Pamphlet of the Sample Ballot. Should more than one argument be filed, the county elections official will choose one to appear in accordance with the law.
The deadline for filing rebuttals and analyses is August 28. Public inspection of the documents will take place from August 29 to September 7. A writ of mandate or injunction may be sought to require amendments or deletions.
