Internet Provides Quick Link to Voter Registration Forms

Go to www.votescount.com

Click on Register to Vote.

Type in your information. Wait for a voter registration card to be mailed to you. Sign it and mail the postage-paid form by October 10.

It's that simple to register to vote in the November 7, 2000 Presidential General Election.

In addition to the traditional methods of obtaining a voter registration card at post offices, libraries, county offices, city clerk's offices, the Department of Motor Vehicles, and many other locations in the county, Internet users may now obtain a voter registration card online at www.votescount.com through two different methods.

  1. Persons may complete an online form to the Santa Cruz County Elections Department and upon receipt of the electronic application, elections officials will mail a card to the person who must then complete the voter registration card, sign it and return it.

  2. Persons may complete an online registration form from the Secretary of State's Office. The voter's name, address, birth date, birth place and other information is actually printed on the voter registration card and then mailed to the voter to select a party affiliation, sign and return it.

Interested persons may also call the Elections Department at 454-2060 and request that a voter registration card be mailed to them. And, for those who like to wait until the last minute, the Elections Department will conduct midnight voter registration on October 10, the last day to register. Staff will be available at the court trailer in front of the county building at 701 Ocean Street in Santa Cruz until the clock strikes 12:00 a.m.

To be eligible to register and vote, a person must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on or before November 7, and not be in prison or on parole for a felony conviction.

Voters should re-register if they do not remember voting within the last five years, have moved since last voting, want to change their political party affiliation, or have changed their name.
