November 2, 2021 City of Santa Cruz Election

Exhibit A was not printed in the Voter Information Guide with the Argument in Favor of Measure A and the Impartial Analysis. Exhibit A will be mailed to each registered voter on 10/12.  It can also be found here.

How is the November 2, 2021 City of Santa Cruz election conducted?

Santa Cruz County Elections will automatically mail all City of Santa Cruz registered voters a ballot by October 4, 2021.  Be aware that mail can take 3 to 7 days for delivery.  If you do not receive your ballot, or if you spoil it, you can obtain a replacement by calling 831-454-2060 or at one of our in-person voting locations.

A Voter Information Pamphlet will be included with your ballot.  In the pamphlet you will find information on Measure A – the arguments and the impartial analysis.  It is also found here.

How to vote in the November 2, 2021 City of Santa Cruz election?

Due to a change in the law, every active registered voter in the City of Santa Cruz will receive a ballot in the mail for the November 2, 2021 City of Santa Cruz election.  Your ballot will be mailed by October 4, 2021.

October 30 to November 2

1. Mark it by filling in the oval to the left of your choices. Voting is not a test; you do not have to vote on every issue.

2. Insert the completed ballot in the postage paid ballot envelope provided to you.

3.  In your own handwriting, sign the ballot envelope. Print your name, address, and a way to contact you.

3. Return your ballot. 

  • Drop it off at one of the 24/7 ballot drop boxes.
  • Deliver your ballot to the Santa Cruz County Clerk/Elections office or the Santa Cruz City Clerk's office. 
  • Drop off your ballot at any in-person voting locations open October 30 to November 2.    
  • Mail your ballot, so that it is postmarked on or before Election Day, November 2.

You may vote early in person from October 4 to October 29 from 8am to 5pm at these locations:

At these locations, you can:

  • Obtain a replacement ballot
  • Register and vote on the same day
  • Vote an accessible ballot on the tablet
  • Vote a Spanish ballot on the tablet
  • Drop off voted ballot
  • Any other voter services

Current public health protocols will be followed which may include: mask wearing, hand sanitizing, physical distancing & disinfecting services. If you are sick, please stay home.

Starting October 30, more voting locations are available.

You may vote in person from October 30 to November 2 at these locations. Any voter can go to any location.

Each location will be open on:

  • Saturday, October 30, 2021, 9am to 5pm
  • Sunday, October 31, 2021, 9am to 5pm
  • Monday, November 1, 2021, 8am to 5pm
  • Tuesday, November 2, 2021, 7am to 8pm

At these locations, you can:

  • Obtain a replacement ballot
  • Register and vote on the same day
  • Vote an accessible ballot on the tablet
  • Vote a Spanish ballot on the tablet
  • Drop off voted ballot
  • Any other voter services

May/June 2021

Suggested time for jurisdictions holding elections in November to pass a resolution that 1) orders the election; 2) requests the Santa Cruz County Elections Department to conduct the election, and 3) consolidates it with any other jurisdiction holding an election on that same day.

August 6, 2021

Last day to call an election or file for office. If the incumbent does not file, filing is extended for 5 calendar days for anyone other than the incumbent.

August 6, 2021

Deadline for filing tax rate statement for bond measures. Last day to file Tax Rate Statement for any bond measure appearing on the November ballot.           

August 13, 2021

Deadline for filing arguments for or against local ballot measures.

Deadline for filing analyses of local ballot measures.

August 20, 2021

Deadline for filing rebuttals.

September 3, 2021

First day to mail ballots to military and overseas voters

October 4, 2021

First day to mail ballots to vote-by-mail voters.

October 18, 2021

Last day to register to vote in November 2021 election.

Weekend voting – open 9 am to 5 pm at Santa Cruz County Elections.
